Leadership in Action

The L of LFS was on show at the New Jersey 101-102 Conference on April 9th. Presenters had a full 30 student Launch course in the morning which prompted a spur of the moment addition of an afternoon edition as well. Having a number of trained presenters with lap tops in hand enabled staff to put on the second course for an extra 13 students who had been closed out of the morning course. It is times like these that presenter training and willingness to serve the fraternity show students how important alumni support really is. This is an excellent example to use when encouraging seniors or recent alums to participate the Certified Presenter courses in order to become content trained in other areas. Due to devoted staff, those students will now be able to take the rest of the series of courses at future conferences rather than be delayed by a semester or even two in the APO LEADS series. I encourage advisors and chapter liaisons to snag their seniors before they graduate to keep them involved in the fraternity. As Maggie Katz reminded us in Atlanta, "APO is for Life!"

CAPS

he Chapter Assessment and Planning Session (CAPS) is a tool to help a chapter identify its goals and begin to plan for the coming year, based on an assessment of the past year. It is not designed to be a comprehensive, point--point analysis of all chapter operations. It is also not designed to plan every activity or to set the calendar in stone for the coming year. However, it should identify areas the chapter wants to improve and key events or activities the chapter wants to see happen. To see the current handbook on the Chapter Assessment and Planning Session (CAPS), click on download now. Download_Button.gif

Upon completion of the CAPS, a report should be completed by the Chapter President (or an Executive Board member designated by the President) and submitted to the National Office.cpedreport_0.png

SERVE

Looking for something interesting, new and exciting to do during your summer vacation?! Lead all year long by attending a summer leadership development weekend! The summer weekends have become such a successful and well-received part of Alpha Phi Omega's leadership development program that they are offered each summer in multiple locations around the country, allowing members from all regions of the country to have access to its unique features. There's no restriction on which weekend you can attend - any one that is convenient is open to you, regardless of the region your chapter is in.

Each weekend consists of the all new SERVE course and is staffed by trained alumni volunteers. The weekend events provide the opportunity for you to get answers and ideas from those who have "been there" and know the ropes. Some sites may also offer training courses for alumni volunteers to train to become SERVE presenters.

NVC

When we are volunteering for the Fraternity, there aren’t a lot of opportunities to share experiences and network with other volunteers. That’s not the case with the NVC! Here you will be able to meet and share experiences with volunteers from across the nation. This is a great opportunity to learn what’s working and what’s not from other volunteers. Please make it your summer volunteer priority to attend the sixth annual National Volunteer Conference that will be held July 28 - July 31, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Independence, MO.
